Why choose a Power Regulator over a Master Volume control?

An adjustable Power Regulator works by sliding down the amp's power supply voltage, and tracking the bias accordingly.

Unlike a Master Volume, it does not alter the "signal path" circuitry whatsoever, and it has ZERO effect on the tone of the amp when set to full power.

Most Master Volume controls simply reduce the signal level before the output stage. The player can then overdrive the preamp tubes at lower volumes, but much of the amp's "full-volume" character is lost.

A Power Regulator circuit affects the whole amp circuit, allowing the player to reduce the amp's output while retaining its "full volume" character.
